Kenneth Choi who plays Principal Morita also played the Howling Commando Jim Morita in Captain America: The First Avenger. In the Principal’s office you can see photos of the Howling Commando which hints that they are related and he is possibly his grandson.

Michael Keaton plays a character called the Vulture which is a man in a bird costume. Coincidentally, Michael Keaton starred in the Best Picture winning film Birdman in 2014 and that character is based off of Batman, which Michael Keaton played in 1989 and 1992.

Every live-action Spider-Man movie released after 2010 so far, debuted 10 years after all 3 Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire movies. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) was released 10 years after Spider-Man (2002); The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) after Spider-Man 2 (2004); and Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) after Spiderman 3 (2007).

Summary: Peter Parker tries to balance between being an ordinary high school student and being an ultimate crime fighter in New York City.

The Review: We got another Spider-Man film but this time, the webs are very strong. We finally got the perfect Spider-Man and that is none other than Tom Holland. It certainly is a fun ride!

Favorite Character: Blix

Tagline: This is such stuff as dreams are made of. This is Legend.

Rated: PG

Quote: “As long as they roam the earth, evil can never harm the pure of heart.”- Jack

Fun Facts: Widely rumored to have been a source of inspiration for Shigeru Miyamoto‘s classic game series The Legend of Zelda.

The sound of the unicorns at play is actually a recording of humpback whales.

Curry got too impatient with his character’s makeup and pulled it off too quickly, tearing off his own skin!

The sound of the unicorns at play is actually a recording of humpback whales.

Summary: A Forest Dweller must stop the lord of darkness from having earth plummet into darkness.

The Review: If this whole plot was a storybook, children will be like “I have heard the plot like that before.” Sure the makeup was great and the goblins were fun but with this predictable fairy tale, Ridley Scott could have done better.

Despicable Me 3

Rating: Full

Cast: Steve Carrell, Kristen Wigg, Trey Parker, Miranda Cosgrove, Steve Coogan, Julie Andrews and Jenny Slate

Director: Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda

Favorite Character: Balthezar Bratt

Tagline: Oh Brother.

Rated: PG for action and rude humor

Quote: “I like it, but not a lot. I don’t like it.”

Fun Facts: Steve Carell said that Despicable Me 3 may be his last film as the voice of Gru. However, Carell stated that if he was asked to do a cameo in any future Minion sequels, he happily would.

Agnes’s voice actress Elsie Fisher from the first and second movies was replaced by Nev Scharrel due to Fisher getting too old for the role

Since most of Trey Parker’s roles are basically for adults (mostly South Park), this is his first role in a movie targeted to children.

I don’t know if this is a coincidence or not, but, In Despicable Me 2, the villain El Macho is voiced by Benjamin Bratt, while in Despicable Me 3, the villain’s name is Balthazar Bratt.

Summary: After he and Lucy got fired from the Anti-Villian League, Gru discovered that he has a twin brother and they plan a heist to steal the pink diamond from former 80’s child star, Balthazar Bratt.

The Review: Another day, another great film in the franchise. Balthazar Bratt is certainly one of the best villians of the franchise. The minions are as funny as ever! Best minion movie of the franchise!

Favorite Character: Lucas Lee

Tagline: An epic of epic epicness.

Rated: PG-13 for stylized violence, sexual content, language and drug refrences

Quote: “You once were a ve-gone, but now you will be gone!”- Scott Pilgrim

Fun Facts: When Scott opens the door to receive his package, Michael Cera actually did throw the package over his shoulder into the bin after 30-odd takes (most of which are seen on the “outtakes” of the DVD). However, the signature shown on-screen was a visual effect superimposed onto the paper

Whenever the moon is shown, it is full and there is a hole in it. Ramona’s third boyfriend, Todd Ingram, is mentioned in flashback to have punched the hole there for her when they dated. In the graphic novel, Todd punches a second hole in the moon for Envy Adams.

The star on Ramona’s bag changes in accordance with her hair color.

Summary: In order to date a mysterious girl, Scott Pilgrim must defeat her seven evil exes.

The Review: Game On! The director of Shaun of the Dead has become epic when directing this film. While the graphic novels have more storyline, the film has more styling action. It certainly had an all-star cast. This is a must watch for any gamers.

Eragon

Favorite Character: Eragon

Tagline: One boy… One dragon… A world of adventure.

Rated: PG for fantasy violence, intense battle sequences and some frightening images

Quote: “one part brave, three parts fool.”- Brom

Fun Facts: Many fans of the book were upset at Stefen Fangmeier‘s decisions to take out crucial characters and plot lines.

The last major film to be released on VHS in the United States.

Plans were made to adapt the other three books in the series, with director Stefen Fangmeier intending to film the second and third movie back-to-back. However, after negative reviews by both audience and critics, any ideas for sequels were dropped.

The film borrowed the plot elements from “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” and “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope”.

Summary: A farm boy finds a stone, which turned out to be an egg, not knowing that he is the chosen one in the kingdom of Alagaesia.

The Review: Basically, a fast food toy of the Lord of the Rings. The visual effects and the performances are good. This is not recommended for the fans of the book series. It’s something that comes from the 10 year old boy’s imagination.

Yours, Mine and Ours

Favorite Character: Dylan White-Beardsley

Tagline: 18 kids, one house, no way.

Rated: PG for some mild crude humor

Quote: “It’s time for us to call a truce. None of us likes this situation, but if we want to win out we need to unite against the greater enemy. That enemy’s name is Mom and Dad.”- William Beardsley

Fun Facts: Drake Bell and Miranda Cosgrove played brother and sister in the Nickelodeon kid’s show Drake & Josh.

The party band in the movie is a Christian alternative rock band called Hawk Nelson.

In the 1968 original film, Frank Beardsley (portrayed by ‘Henry Fonda (I)’) was an active duty US Navy Chief Warrant Officer (a rank between commissioned officers and non-commissioned officers, usually granted to expert technical specialists with extensive experience), while in this remake, Frank Beardsley is a retired US Coast Guard Admiral.

The Review: So the reboot of cheaper by the dozen is great but this one is just a ripoff. There doesn’t seem to be jokes in the film. It is a must for our dear old nickelodeon fans. Use this family film wisely.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Rating: Full

Cast: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Baultista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillian, Pom Klemertieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell

Director: James Gunn

Writer: James Gunn

Producers: Kevin Feige

Music by: Tyler Bates

Favorite Character: Peter Quill

Tagline: You only get one chance to save the galaxy twice.

Rated: PG-13

Quote: “I’m Mary Poppins, y’all!”- Yondu

Fun Facts: According to Chris Pratt, the film’s script helped him come to terms with the death of his father.

Prop master Russell Bobbitt had difficulty finding the cassette decks used in the first film and all of the Sony Walkman headphones they found were broken. Bobbitt contacted Sony to see if they had any available for filming, which they did not, so he eventually created six from scratch.

In the cinematic Marvel comic book universe timeline, the film takes place in 2014, three months after Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). It takes place a year after Thor: The Dark World (2013), before or after Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), and a year before Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). Ego arrived on Earth and began his relationship with Meredith Quill in 1980, which took place thirty-eight years after Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) and thirty-two years before The Avengers (2012).

The ironic thing about Gamora not enjoying dancing is actress Zoe Saldana actually has a deep background in dancing, with Ballet being her first passion

Summary: As the team struggles, Peter Quill reunites with his father.

The Review: This is basically another chapter in the marvel franchise and not one marvel film is defeated. I It does have quite a theme for a title and end credits. Baby Groot once again steals the show. Be sure to stay for the whole movie. Although it is not as awesome as the first one, I still say it is awesome.

The Benchwarmers

benchwarmers

Rating: Half-Full

Cast: Rob Schneider, David Spade, Jon Heder, Jon Lovitz, Nick Swardson, Craig Kilborn, Molly Sims and Tim Meadows

Director: Dennis Dugan

Writers: Allen Covert and Nick Swardson

Producers: Adam Sandler and Jack Giarraputo

Music by: Waddy Wachtel

Oscar Nominations: 0

Favorite Character: Clark Reedy

Tagline: 3 older dudes should be able to beat 9 young jocks… Right?

Rated: PG-13 for crude and suggestive humor and for language

Quote: “Macaroni must have steroids!”- Clark Reedy

Fun Facts: The drills that that Reggie Jackson used for the boys were actual drills he did as a kid.

After their first game, David Spade walks out of the field with the other two wearing his sunglasses. This is the only scene where “Richie” wears sunglasses, because the director didn’t allow the character to wear them. However, in this scene, he had forgotten to take his glasses off after being backstage and the director thought that the take was so good, he didn’t bother re-doing the take.

In an interview with Howard Stern, Adam Sandler said he specifically cast Spade and Schneider to force them to work together in order to smooth over a rift that the two had with each other.

Summary: Three guys formed a three men team to play in the children’s baseball league.

The Review: Like Happy Gilmore, Dugan has done another sports comedy. I basically say that Jon Heder’s performance hit a home run, the rest, is ok. The climax of course, is pretty confusing. This film is not out of the park but it did reach double base.
